What is www.ymail.com?
Ymail is the alias for the extremely popular Yahoo Mail. There are many free online mail sites on the internet, such as AIM mail, Zoho mail, GMX, Inbox.com, Myspace mail and so on. There are even mail sites that allow people to create disposable email addresses, such as Mailinator.com, GuerrillaMail.com, 10minutemail.com. These services allow one to create a temporary email address for those pesky websites that demand that you provide an email address before they allow you to view their content. Since each email only has a short life, they are fire and forget email address that you only have to check once or twice. Another class of specialized email services is the task reminder email sites, such as ReSnooze.com and LaterGator.ca. These websites allow you to create tasks on their sites, and then at the required date and time in the future, they send an email to your address to remind you of the task. You can also set up recurring tasks, such as daily, weekly or monthly tasks, and you will get an email at the appropriate time to remind you.
But the most popular three email sites on the web are MSN’s Hotmail, Yahoo’s Ymail, and Google’s Gmail. All these email services are free, but they all have their strengths and weaknesses. All of the Big 3 sites have unlimited storage. Both Gmail and Hotmail allow POP access to your inbox. POP is a protocol that allows email clients such as Outlook and Thunderbird to retrieve messages from internet mail servers, such as the ones that Gmail and Hotmail run, so you can view Gmail and Hotmail inboxes from your Outlook client. However, POP is actually an inferior protocol compared to IMAP. POP offers only a one way synchronization of mail messages, so that if you delete messages on your Outlook client, the same message still remains on your online account. IMAP offers true two-way synchronization between the client and server, so that when you delete a message on the client, the message also gets deleted from the server. Only Gmail offers IMAP to its users. IMAP is especially useful if you want to check your inbox from many different clients, such as from Outlook, your mobile phone, and the internet. Without IMAP synchronization, doing this just creates havoc within your various inboxes. As a result, Gmail is one of the fastest growing email services on the web. Yahoo Mail only offers POP for a fee, and does not offer IMAP at all.
